EVENTS

We run a variety of exciting events from screenings to socials. Learn more about them below.

  • Privileged: 40th Anniversary and Reunion

OUFF was founded in 1981 to support the creation of the feature film Privileged (1982). On 29 October 2022 we celebrated the film’s 40th anniversary with a screening of the film at the Ultimate Picture Palace in Oxford and a Q&A with key members of the cast and crew including Mike Hoffman, Andy Paterson, Rick Stevenson, Rachel Portman, Simon Shackleton, Neil Mendoza, and more.

  • Screenings

In addition to our festival, we host screenings of films throughout the year. Recent screenings include ‘Santi’ (Oxford was the last stop on the short film’s university tour) and ‘Et in Arcadia,’ a short made by Oxford Students through OUFF. We also partner with MUBI to screen a film on their platform once a term.

  • Socials

We run 2-3 socials per term for filmmakers to meet and get to know each other. These are some of our most popular events!

  • Cuppers

Our annual Cuppers competition, run in October / November, challenges new filmmakers to make a one-minute film using only their phones and responding to three randomly drawn prompt words.

  • Winter Screenwriting Competition

Our annual winter screenwriting competition accepts scripts written by students at the University of Oxford that are a maximum of five pages. There is no limit on subject matter. Entries are used as the scripts for the Projects films the following year.

  • Training Workshops

All Directors of Photography and Camera Operators are required to complete a training workshop prior to using our camera. These workshops are free and open to everyone, including non-university students. We run 2-3 per term. We also run one-off workshops on different aspects of filmmaking such as editing. These are all organised by our Film Department.
